Between 2016 and 2018, the founder of Mai Chimani Skincare experienced a significant personal health challenge that resulted in hormonal imbalance due to reduced oestrogen levels. During this time, noticeable changes in skin appearance developed, including uneven tone, dryness, reduced elasticity, and sensitivity.

This personal experience sparked a deep interest in understanding skin health and exploring gentle, natural approaches to skincare. It also highlighted a broader concern—seeing many women, particularly Black women, and some men experiencing visible skin damage linked to harsh skincare practices and skin bleaching. This was especially close to the founder’s heart, as maintaining and celebrating natural skin tone has always been important.

With a professional background in nursing, Mai Chimani gained valuable insight into skin anatomy and physiology, strengthening the foundation for researching skin management from a holistic perspective. Rather than relying on synthetic solutions, the focus shifted toward natural plants and herbs that work in harmony with the body’s natural functions.

In collaboration with her daughter, who brings expertise in pharmacology and evidence-based herbal research, this vision evolved into Mai Chimani Skincare—a range that includes herbal facial soaps, toners, oils, serums, moisturising creams, and body lotions.
